Our Story
Nora Hale Looney Memorial Church (1911)
It all started when…
the Estacada charge and community was saddened by the unexpected death of a young Christian woman named Mrs. Nora Hale-Looney. Only 27 years old when she died of pregnancy complications (February 1909), Nora was an esteemed teacher, Sunday School superintendent, president of the Ladies Aid, and matron of the Juvenile Grange at Garfield. In her honor, a group of Estacada residents funded the construction of a new church building, which was completed in 1911.
Between 1911 and 1973, the building served as a place of worship for various churches, including a Nazarene Church and an Assemblies of God Church.
In 1973, the building and property was transferred to a newly formed, non-denominational, Congregational church, called Garfield Community Church -- a fellowship that has been worshipping together in the charming chapel for over 45 years.
